About Me

I'm a stay-at-home mom with a medical degree . . . and tons of hobbies. The products I sell are ones that I make myself, and love using. I've always been interested in herbs and natural medicine, and have learned how to use them to help my family. Of course, sharing with friends and family generated too much interest to handle without a website.

The KozyWrap

The KozyWrap was a life-saver in medical school. I tried multiple carriers and slings before finding that a wrap was the most comfortable way to carry my son for 5 hours a day in the back of a lecture hall. With a little bit of practice, they are easy to tie, and so comfortable you almost don’t notice the extra weight of the baby.

Herbal Ointments

I grew up using comfrey for cuts and bruises, and learned of other valuable healing herbs as I studied. I also love to use herbal remedies, if possible, to avoid the damaging side effects of typical medications. I combined the most effective herbs I've used with healing oils and essential oils like tea tree, to make a great all-purpose herbal ointment. I've also researched Lemon Balm or Melissa Officinalis and found that it can work as well as anti-viral medications to decrease the healing time of cold sores from the herpes virus.

Learning to Make Soap

An interest in herbs and ointments led me to try making soap. What a fun process! It's relatively easy, if you use careful handling techniques with lye. And the soap is so much better than commercial. It retains the natural occuring glycerin that helps moisturize the skin. And there are no harsh chemicals added (the lye is completely consumed in the chemical reaction with the oils). I then used my herb knowledge to make a great acne soap and one that helps prevent and heal poison ivy after exposure. These are great natural alternatives to traditional treatments.

Making LipSilk

Finally, I was looking for a lip balm that didn't contain alcohol, would help my cracked lips heal, and didn't leave a greasy or waxy feeling on my lips. I tried a variety of recipes, and found that using shea butter, cocoa butter, and a small amount of beeswax was a perfect combination. It stays on the lips for hours, and really has a 'silky' feel.

Beehives Next!

And this year I'm getting two beehives, just because they are fascinating creatures. Who knows, if you check back in the fall, there might be organic honey and beeswax offered here too. :-)
